This week’s topic is “Setting Personal Animal Reiki Goals for 2024 – Why It’s Important”. We shared some incredibly simple ways you can set goals and create change in your life that will last. No more setting New Year’s resolutions that you can’t keep!

Here are some tips for setting goals:

Align Your Goals with Personal Values: Choose goals that truly resonate with your values and what you genuinely desire, rather than setting goals based on external expectations. Don’t make a goal to go to the gym every day if you hate the gym. Make a goal to do something physical that brings you more joy. For me, that’s yoga and my goal is to incorporate at least five minutes of yoga into every day! An easily attainable goal that will encourage me to do longer sessions as the year progresses.

Visualization and Positive Imagery: Regularly visualize the successful outcome of your goals. Imagine how your life will be positively impacted once you achieve these goals, reinforcing your commitment and motivation. Think about December 31, 2024 and how it will feel to have not only reached your goal but made it a daily habit!

Journal for Clarity and Reflection: Journaling can be a powerful tool to clarify your goals, track your progress, and reflect on your journey. Remember, when looking back at your progress, look at your gains and NOT your gaps. If your goal is to work out every day but you only worked out two days, celebrate the fact that you did two days! That’s progress!!

Celebrating Progress: Which leads us to celebrating! Acknowledge and celebrate every small victory or progress towards your goal. This reinforces positive behavior and keeps you motivated. Celebrating creates a dopamine response – very similar to the dopamine response you get from social media.

Addressing and Overcoming Fears: It’s important to recognize and confront any fears or doubts that may pop up. Remind yourself that it’s safe for you to obtain your goals. You deserve to receive what you desire!

Practical Strategies and Tiny Habits: Implement practical strategies like the ‘tiny habits’ approach. Start with a very small and manageable action towards your goal and gradually increase the effort as the habit becomes more ingrained. Like for me – just five minutes of yoga a day. And if I only do one minute of yoga, that is still progress!! Incorporating tiny habits is very similar to the tortoise and the hare race. Remember who won???

Adaptability: Be open to adjusting your approach if your initial plan isn’t working. Flexibility can often lead to a better strategy for achieving your goals!

Accountability and Support: Find a friend who has a similar goal. Make a plan to check in either daily or weekly to report your progress. Don’t pick someone who is flakey or doesn’t have the same drive as you. You want to pick someone who is committed and reliable! You’d be surprised at how motivating this can be!

Learning from Setbacks: View setbacks not as failures, but as learning opportunities. You don’t need to go down the shame spiral when you experience a setback. Look at what caused the failure – were you tired, irritable, stressed? Then find a way to avoid that situation in the future. Goals are not about perfection! They are about making progress. However that looks!

In fact, I want to share this info about “good enough”. Marily Oppezzo is a behavioral and learning scientist and a registered dietitian, and frequently provides advice to Stanford University’s faculty and staff through the university’s wellness programs. She emphasizes the importance of doing something, even if the action falls short of a loftier objective.

Although this was a long, I hope you find some useful tidbits in it to make 2024 your best year yet! I promise you, start small and you will accomplish more by the end of 2024 than you have in the past three years! TRUTH!
